Student opportunities and activities

At Dubbo College, we offer a wide range of co-curricular (extra-curricular) programs that extend learning beyond the classroom. These opportunities help students build new skills, develop confidence, form friendships, and explore new interests.

College Programs

Talented Athletes Program
Our Talented Athlete Program (TAP), which nurtures high-level athletic training through strong community partnerships. This program supports numerous students who achieve representation at regional, state, and national levels, showcasing the college’s commitment to developing sporting talent.
Representative School Sport
Sport is an integral part of our college community, and we take great pride in seeing our students excel both in and out of college. Whether on the netball court, athletics track, or representing the college in regional and state competitions, our students consistently show dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship. We are committed to supporting them as they develop their talents and pursue excellence in every arena.
Dubbo College Band
Whether you are an experienced musician or a novice who wants to learn an instrument, the Dubbo College Band has space for everyone.
Dubbo College Choir
Our choir performs at campus and college functions and events, eisteddfods, presentation and community events.
Premier's Reading Challenge

The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 10

More information is available at https://online.education.nsw.gov.au/prc/home.html

Premier's Debating Challenge

Special interest clubs
These include Board Games Club, Coding Club, Chess club and Cheer squad.

Community Programs

Rotary Public Speaking Competition
This annual event designed for students to develop communication, research, and confidence skills. Participants deliver speeches (often 3–5 minutes) focusing on ethical, social, or personal topics, frequently incorporating the four-way test, with winners progressing from club heats to district finals.
Rotary Youth Exchange

The Rotary International Youth Exchange Program provides sponsorship by a Rotary Club for secondary school students aged 15 to 17 to live and study abroad and live with host families for a period of time. There are also short-term exchanges available.

The primary goal of Rotary Youth Exchange is providing young people with opportunities to experience a cultural exchange and to develop as leaders who promote peace and justice around the world.

Science and Engineering Challenge
The Science and Engineering Challenge is a national STEM initiative designed to ignite curiosity and inspire students to consider future careers in science and engineering. Through fun, engaging, and hands-on activities - such as building model bridges, planning electrical supply grids, and constructing functional catapults, students develop problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
National Youth Science Forum

NYSF runs summer schools in January each year for high school students with a talent and passion for science. Students who have completed year 11 gain exposure to professional scientists and engineers in a variety of laboratory and industry visits, hands-on experiments and video links to overseas facilities. They also take part in enrichment activities related to career and personal development. Most importantly, they meet with students who have similar goals and passions.

Application details and associated costs and sponsorship information can be found here: https://www.nysf.edu.au/what-we-do/how-to-apply/open_in_new

Program graduates return with new enthusiasm and understanding that have inspired their future in the sciences.

Aboriginal Education

We are committed to engaging our Aboriginal students in learning and working with community, industry, business and educators.  We work with two programs - the Clontarf Academy for our Aboriginal boys and NASCA for our Aboriginal girls.

NASCA

NASCA caters to the specific needs of Indigenous young women and girls. Our young women and girls deserve an education that builds their confidence, strengthens their Culture, and enables them to realise their potential. We work with students who are often at a critical drop-out point and help them re-engage with their education.

Our Young Women’s Academies operate five days a week catering to students from year 7 to year 12. We provide intensive, wrap-around support, role-modelling, one-to-one, and group mentoring, in-class, and academic support, transportation to and from school, healthy meals, well-being workshops, cultural excursions, camps, and events, and a dedicated NASCA safe space at school.

Our programs are curriculum-aligned, culturally safe, and tailored to help our young women and girls succeed. We help them grow up proud of their Culture and heritage, confident in their abilities, and empowered to build a successful future for themselves.

Clontarf

Our campuses work in partnership with The Clontarf Foundation. Clontarf helps young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to attend school, finish Year 12 and enter employment. Full time mentors support the young men through the program. Mentors help to build positive relationships and increase self-esteem and develop life skills.

Each campus has its own Clontarf academy and this approach has proven to be very successful, not only in attracting young men to school and keeping them there, but also in having them embrace more disciplined, purposeful and healthy lifestyles.

To learn more, visit the Clontarf Foundation website or contact your campus administration office.
