Inspire – High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At Dubbo College, we are committed to delivering high potential and gifted education that encompasses a wide range of activities and opportunities across our campuses, designed to challenge and inspire our students. Through a variety of academic, cultural, sporting and extracurricular activities, we provide pathways for high potential and gifted students to develop their skills, explore their interests, and reach their full potential. We create an inclusive and supportive environment that recognises and nurtures each student’s unique strengths, encouraging them to embrace challenges and pursue their passions with confidence.

Inspire – High potential and gifted education is delivered in-class, across campuses, across the whole college and across NSW.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

At Dubbo College, Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is an integral part of everyday teaching and learning. Our approach aligns with NSW Department of Education policy and is underpinned by Explicit Teaching, ensuring all students are supported to achieve high levels of growth, engagement and success.

Teachers use clear learning intentions, success criteria and structured lesson sequences to make learning visible and accessible for all students. Within this explicit framework, HPGE differentiation is intentionally planned to challenge and extend students across the four domains of potential: intellectual, creative, social–emotional and physical.

Enrichment and extension opportunities are embedded within classroom programs rather than offered in isolation. Students are supported through differentiated tasks, higher-order questioning, flexible grouping and opportunities for depth, complexity and abstraction. In addition, we offer a broad and diverse range of curriculum electives, providing students with opportunities to pursue their individual interests, strengths and talents. This breadth of choice enables students to engage deeply in areas of passion while experiencing appropriate challenge and extension.

Explicit instruction in skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, metacognition and effective note-taking enables students to engage deeply with curriculum content and apply their learning in meaningful and transferable ways.
